Businesses rebuild, support protests in wake of George Floyd's death

Volunteers in Sacramento, California, have stepped up to protect businesses by boarding up those that were damaged after a weekend of looting.


These same business owners chose to reflect on the life of George Floyd, who was recently killed while in police custody in Minneapolis, and support those protesting on his behalf.

"Black lives matter," said Jacqueline Greene, owner of Wild Poppy & Co. Boutique. "They matter to us. They're more important than any storefront, any shop."

Greene had just re-opened her store after two months of being closed due to the coronavirus, but chose to close her store again, and paint a Black Lives Matter mural in solidarity.
