An Antioch rollover crash on Route 173 involving two cars and a semi-truck has sent at least three people to area hospitals.
The Antioch rollover crash took place in the area of Route 173 and Redwing Parkway. On October 5, 2020, shortly after 8:00 p.m., a 16-year-old Antioch boy with an instruction permit was driving a Nissan sedan eastbound on Route 173, with an adult family member in the passenger seat. At that time, a 31-year-old man from Canada was driving a semi-truck westbound on Route 173, approaching the Nissan’s position. The Nissan then attempted to turn north onto Redwing Parkway. In making the turn, it failed to yield to the semi-truck, which collided with the Nissan.
The force of the collision pushed the Nissan back into the eastbound lane of Route 173, where it struck a Jeep driven by a 35-year-old Round Lake man. The impact caused the Jeep to leave the roadway. The Jeep rolled over on its side as it went into a ditch, then struck a telephone pole.
The Antioch Police Department and Antioch Fire Department reported to the scene of the Antioch rollover crash at around 8:21 p.m. Firefighters needed to extricate the Jeep’s driver from his vehicle. Three people involved in the incident were reportedly transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The roadway was closed for approximately two hours to allow for cleanup and investigation of the Antioch rollover crash.
