The Ground Your Parents Kit is designed to be a fun and interactive tool for teens to encourage their parents and caregivers to make safe and smart decisions while driving.

The videos that started it all! Parents are notorious for making the excuse that they are “good multitaskers” when it comes to phone use and driving. Your voice can have a tremendous impact on your parent’s decision to drive safe! The Ground Your Parents Campaign Kit gives you free tools to start a conversation with your parents about safe driving, have some fun, and reward safe driving behavior.
Here’s How it Works:
1. Get permission from your school’s administration or adult leader to request a FREE Ground Your Parents Kit for your school.
2. Use the form below to officially request your FREE Kit (each kit can accommodate up to 100 students).
3. Once you receive your kit, start getting as many teens at your school to participate as possible!
4. Tag @FLTeenSafeDriver and @StateFarm on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter with photos showing teens/parents using the kit’s materials. (See below for details on prizes and superlative categories)
5. Answer the following question in 500 words or less: “How would you use a $1,000 grant from The Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition (courtesy of State Farm) at your school to support a traffic safety need or project?” Email your response by March 30th, 2022.
6. If you are a teen entering to win a superlative category, please Email us any photos or videos that you want considered by March 30th, 2022. You must include a signed release containing your parent/guardian’s signature.

Grant & Scholarship Prizes
The following prizes will be awarded. 20 Florida high schools will receive a $1,000 grant to be used to fund a traffic safety need or implement a traffic safety project at their high school. 3 Students will be individually selected in our superlative category to receive a $1,000 scholarship that can be used for educational expenses.

How to Win a School Prize
In order to qualify to receive a $1,000 grant from the Florida Teen Safe Driving Coalition, you must request a free Ground Your Parents Kit, and email us the answer to the essay question of “How will you use $1,000 at your school to fund or support a traffic safety need?” 20 total winners will be selected based on the written response to the essay question. High schools must be located in Florida to be considered eligible for the grant award.
How to Win a Superlative Student Prize
Most Creative Reminder Sticky Note Placement
Did you locate that one spot where your parents were least expecting to see a safe driving reminder? Maybe you peppered your entire house with sticky notes. Show us your best tent card or sticky reminder placement areas! Whether it’s a photo collage or a TikTok Video compilation of all the reminders you placed around your house – we want to see it!

Did you mow the lawn for your mom or dad because they drove safe? Wash the dishes? Babysit your siblings? Surprise them with their favorite caffeinated beverage? Whatever you did to show your gratitude for your parents safe driving, we want you to share it with us! Get creative!!
Best Parent “Punishment/Chore” Entry
Did you make your parents listen to the “Baby Shark” song on repeat 20 times? Take away their phone privileges for an hour? Perhaps you made a TikTok video where you made them learn a funny dance as punishment? Whatever the case is, we look forward to you sharing your best parent “punishment/chore” entry.

Infographic Poster:
This infographic poster can be displayed around your high school or community group location to help educate on the importance of safe driving. You have a total of 5 infographic posters per kit to hang in various areas of your school/community group.

Promotional Poster:
This poster will help promote the “Ground Your Parents” campaign to your high school or community group. You can use the empty space at the bottom of the poster to identify the adult leader at your school, and the room number that interested students should visit to obtain kit materials. We’ve included a total of 5 promotional posters per kit to hang in various areas of your school/community group.

Tips for Talking with Parents:
Teens can use this conversational “tip card” to begin the dialogue with their parent(s) on the importance of safe driving. We’ve also included some ideas on ways teens can speak up if their parent drives distracted. We recommend giving each participating student 1 of these tip cards for their usage at home.

Safe Driving Report Card:
Sometimes parents can get a little rusty on their driving skills or safety measures. Use this report card to rate and assess your parents’ driving skills and behavior. Teens will have the option to give a Pass/Fail style grade to their parent’s driving skills. We recommend giving each participating student 2 of these report cards for their usage at home.

Parent Citations:
Ever wish you could turn the tables on you parents for questionable driving behavior? Using our Parent Citations, teens can now issue a “ticket” form to officially “Ground your Parents” for unsafe driving behavior. We advise giving each participating student 3-5 of these citations for their usage at home.

Safe Driving Reminder Tent Cards:
Parents need reminders to drive safe! Studies suggest that it takes multiple interactions to inspire behavior change. Fold these tent card notes and place them in areas where your parents are bound to see them. Plan to provide each participating student 5 of these tent cards for their usage at home.
